We Are To Listen For God's Still Small Voice

Written by Wayne Stockstill

Last Sunday I spoke of God’s “still small voice” as the way in which He predominantly speaks to us.  Today, I am speaking of God speaking to us through the Holy Spirit by prayer, the Bible, the Church and circumstances.

As we were praising God for the rain that He sent to us last week, Dave Littlefield heard God saying that the mud and debris that were left in the driveway to the entrance of the church property could be dangerous, not to mention unattractive.  God’s still small voice was speaking to him about the need to remove the mud and debris.

God has blessed Dave to have a tractor that is capable of removing the mud and debris from the driveway in front of the church building (last year it was snow; this year mud).  Circumstantially, God has placed in Dave’s hands the ability to remove the mud from the driveway to the entrance of the church property.

Dave also knows that the appearance of our property influences the community either favorably or unfavorably.  The love for his church spoke that the debris needed to be removed.
So Dave took time from his busy schedule last Saturday to transport his tractor to the church facility and remove the mud and debris that had been left by the storms.  He did this as a labor of love without requiring recognition or remuneration.  He did it because he loves his God and God’s church.

This is illustrative of the way God calls each of us to His service.  There is a need.  We have the ability to meet that need.  God impresses our minds of the need.  We serve Him without need for recognition or money.  He is glorified as His people are blessed.

Incidentally, Dave doesn’t need your thanks, but thanks that are not needed are very gratifying.  You will know what to do from here.
